DIY Thanksgiving Ideas

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and you don’t have to break the bank to decorate your home for it! Below are some great ideas to add a cost effective fall-feel to your home this Thanksgiving.

If you are using real leaves, you need to preserve them to keep them looking nice throughout the season. The easiest and quickest way is to sandwich each leaf between two sheets of wax paper and ironing for a few seconds until the leaves are sufficiently coated. If you bought craft leaves, you can skip this step!

Autumn Leaf Fairy Lights

What you need:

  • Craft (or real) leaves
  • Wax Paper (if using real leaves)
  • An Iron (if using real leaves)
  • Glue
  • String Fairy Lights

Steps to take:

  1. Once you have your leaves ready, use a strong adhesive to attach the leaves in front of each bulb on your fairy lights.
  2. Display your creation for a nice fall effect!

DIY Falling Leaves

What you need:

  • Craft (or real) leaves
  • Wax Paper (if using real leaves)
  • An Iron (if using real leaves)
  • Glue
  • String
  • Glitter

Steps to take:

  1. Once your leaves are ready, take your glue and put it on the leaf in a smooth, even layer. Sprinkle glitter over the leaf until is completely coated. Let sit until glue is dried, and repeat the process on the other side.
  2. Once you have your desired amount of leaves covered in glitter, take your string, place on the bottom on the leaf (where the stem is) and glue it. Let it sit for a few minutes to dry.
  3. Cut the string for each leaf in different lengths, hang them up on your wall, and enjoy your new falling leaf effect!

Fall Candle Centerpiece

What you need:

  • Craft (or real) leaves
  • Wax Paper (if using real leaves)
  • An Iron (if using real leaves)
  • Glue
  • Twine
  • Candles

Steps to take

  1. Once you have prepared your leaves, put glue on one side of them. Place in the center of the candle and let sit until it is dry.
  2. Once the glue has dried, take your twine and tie around the leaf and candle and tie into a bow.
  3. IMPORTANT: Make sure to not light the candle while the leaf is attached. To ensure your safety, it is suggested to remove the leaf and twine before the candle is lit.
