Supporting Youth Girls and STEM Education

A total of 98 girls from 7 counties and 49 schools across Northern New Mexico are participating in STEM Santa Fe’s Pathway for Girls program. The program kicked-off last Fall and continues with monthly workshops throughout the school year.

Fifth through Eighth grade girls participated in workshops over the course of the conference, choosing from a total of 16 workshops with topics around astronomy, archeology, biology, chemistry, epidemiology, and physics. Workshop presenters included women working in STEM fields at various local companies including both Sandia and Los Alamos National Labs, State of New Mexico Energy, Minerals, and Natural Resources Department, and New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology.

STEM Santa Fe is an organization dedicated to providing STEM programming, mentoring, and resources to youth, in particular the underrepresented groups in STEM. They strive to help youth realize their potential and expand their opportunities.

Sandia Area Federal Credit Union is a proud sponsor for STEM Santa Fe’s Pathway for Girls. Through our partnership, we not only assisted with the supplies and success of the conference, but have enabled STEM Santa Fe to continue the monthly virtual workshops with the Pathway for Girls attendees. Participants are able to continue their STEM education and engagement, create a support system of like-minded friends, and gain female STEM role models!

Through our partnership with STEM Santa Fe we are dedicated to empowering the youth in our community to pursue their dreams, no matter how large.
